First apartment complete at historic Arcade Building

ST. LOUIS – June 1, 2015 – Arcade Apartments in the central corridor of downtown St. Louis, announced today that the project is on schedule to open in late 2015. The $118 million renovation of the historic Arcade Building is the largest apartment renovation to be undertaken in St. Louis in decades. Designed to meet the needs of artists and those with an appreciation for the arts, residents will have access to more than 13,000 square feet of shared artist studio spaces and a 19th floor rooftop terrace and clubroom.

Rehabilitation teams have been hard at work renovating the space. The first apartment was completed at the end of May. Along with large bay windows with spectacular downtown views, the luxurious apartment features an open floor plan and is equipped with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, in-home laundry, sealed concrete floors in the living areas, tile floor in bathrooms and carpet in the bedrooms.

“We are pleased with the progress to date and expect to open the Arcade on time,” said Jeff Huggett, vice president and project partner at Dominium, the developer of Arcade Apartments. “Completing the first apartment is a major milestone in the renovation process.”

In the middle of May, major mechanical equipment including the HVAC system was installed on the roof of the building. Crews used a helicopter to airlift and place portions of the mechanical equipment in areas that could not be accessed using the large crane.

When completed, Arcade Apartments will include 282 apartments, ranging from one to three bedrooms. Some affordable-housing artist apartments are specifically designed to meet the needs of artists, a concept that Dominium has successfully introduced at the Metropolitan Artist Lofts and the Leather Trades Artist Lofts in St. Louis. Among the artist amenities available at Arcade Apartments will be large paint, drawing and photography studios, sound attenuated music and multi-media studios and a large performance studio with cushioned hardwood floors and seating. Other amenities include a large fitness center with steam room, two “Fitness on Demand” studios and a yoga studio.

Webster University will be occupying the Arcade’s first two floors, and mezzanine, and will include a 170-seat auditorium, administrative offices and an art gallery.
